News * New

hi, I'm Rachel (PR freelancer, ex-fashion school student and founder of TSF.com). I started the blog way back in 2005 (before there was barely anything about Toronto fashion online) and spent many really fun years documenting fashion and street fashion in Toronto!

I recently had my second baby boy and my days of fashion parties, designer shows and frivolous shopping are but a happy memory. I still work a little on the blog, do other freelance writing and PR when I can!

So, please don't feel offended if I haven't responded to your E-mail, party invite or store opening. I do pass invites along to other bloggers though and we try to cover what we can!

Thanks for reading!

A Little Marchesa in Toronto via Twitter

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

It’s both a good and bad thing when you can 1. learn about all the goings on in the world by sitting at your computer and 2. learn about all the goings on in the world through your computer.

Nevertheless, sometimes when I have enough energy to log into the fabulous lives of the people I follow on Twitter (which I admit is about 2x/month), especially when there’s an event on in Toronto, there is so much information to read, thoughts, photos, names, descriptions….it’s almost like I’m there.

Case in point: Suzanne Rogers’ Fundraiser featuring the elegant, extravagance of Marchesa at the Carlu in Toronto

This is pretty cool – being able to check out dozens (hundreds if you have the time) of hundreds of people’s Twitter comments and especially candid cell phone photos (fyi -I’ll only be attending lgfw tues&thurs. Liza is on-site)>>

This is why I can’t travel with a data plan – too much data!!!

I hate Twitter. I love Twitter.

Once in awhile when the moment strikes I check my Twitter (or stalk who I’m ‘following’) for an account of what’s going on in the Toronto fashion scene, what party I forgot to RSVP for, or what’s going on at the one’s I didn’t get invited to…

This is cool – a moment by moment account of Flare Editor Lisa Tant, Fashion writer Sarah Nicole Prickett, MTVs Jessi Cruickshank and Jeanne Beker at the Sarah Jessica Parker for Halston soiree in Toronto…

She is even lovelier in person, that SJP. Even thanked me for “being smart” and indulged the cocktail party kvelling. Bay scored big tonite.

Jeanne_Beker
SJP is just about THE nicest, sweetest, savviest star I have ever met! Laureen Harper’s at this party to. Another sweetie!

Best part of this SJP thing, besides SJP herself, is hearing people say “she’s so tiny.” One metre away. Um, her ears are still normal size!

SJP wearing gorgeous dove grey satin pumps by Ferragamo that look brutally uncomfortable. She wears them like their sneakers.

Laureen Harper, the PM’s wife, was super excited to meet SJP. Fashion press & socialites all here – and a little breathless in her company

Trying not to wet myself as I make my way to a party hosted by SARAH JESSICA PARKER. No big deal.

Fashion in TwitterLand
by Daniel Wilson

Twitter, Twitter, Twitter… Suddenly this social media network is everywhere. It’s as hot as Facebook was last summer and Myspace (if we can remember that far back) the year before. You can log on to Twitter to let people know you have a hair appointment, what you’re having for dinner or what party you are going to tonight and you can follow what others are doing with their time too.

You learn the more you get into it, some people talk about nothing and others something.

The celebrity factor is getting bigger by the day (everyone heard about Lindsay Lohan’s endless breakup saga via her Twitter), and, for me at least, it is strangely fascinating knowing when Princess Superstar has a dentist appointment.

And of course, fashion people are all over Twitter like gravy on poutine.
So here are my top fashion people to follow in Twit land.

#1 Karl Lagerfeld (of course!)
The King of fashion provides few updates, and of course follows no one, but what he gives us is pure gold! Recent gems include “Florals are for middle-aged women with weight problems.” And “I have no scene. I go everywhere. I adapt.”

#2 Anita ‘Geekgirl’ & Danielle Meder (tied)
These local fashion heroes are great at keeping us updated always on what is latest, newest and hottest. Often helpful heads ups on sample sales and store promos their Twitters are useful and enjoyable.

#3 David Livingstone
Fashion writer for The Toronto Star, Elle, Fashion and Zoomer, David is an august member of Toronto’s fashion community and always right on the mark. “Just watched The Simpsons. Has there ever been an explanation for what child of Lisa’s age is doing in a strapless dress?”

#4 Womens Wear Daily
This venerable publication Twitters reliably with some gossip about what fashion events the who’s who are at and the latest news from the bigshots (think LV campaign news and designer appointments).

#5 Dita Von Teese
Though not strictly a fashion person, Dita’s influence over and consumption of fashion is undeniable. “Just ran into John Galliano doing research at my favorite LA vintage clothing store!” was a recent post.

#6 Malene Arpe
This is my favourite Toronto Star columnist and one of my favourite bloggers out there. Somewhat undiscovered she is absolutely worth following for little delights throughout your day. Anything that amuses her comes out, from unfortunate photos of celebs, movie trailers and strange / cute animal videos.

Please also feel free to follow me on Twitter too, I can never predict what I’ll be Twittering about but I try and keep it entertaining: http://twitter.com/DanielRWilson
