First look @ Fashion Week

Toronto L'Oreal Fashion Week, October 22 - 26, 2007

We started the evening at the Holt Renfrew Launch Party where we caught up with designers, media and the who's who of the fashion industry. From there we missed Heather Marks opening the Joe Fresh runway presentation (but caught her at the Project Runway show) and went straight to Nathan Phillips Square and the beauty of the huge fashion week tent! Really gorgeous with the fountains and flowers and lights....

We can't exactly comment on the final Project Runway Canada shows, but I will assume the judges have an easy job if judging from the contestants final showing! See you tomorrow!

Circa Toronto

Opening Party, October 4, 2007

KidRobot Room | KidRobot Artist Tilt with Rolyn Chambers

Giant KidRobot Dunny for amateur grafittiers | Lena Love

Tilt's Bubble Girl | Art Installation in main hallway

Peter Gatien's $6 million, four-level artsy night club finally opened it doors to hundreds (maybe thousands) of invited guests Thursday night. Although rumours that many celebs like Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake would show up were plentiful, we ran into local fav's including Lady X, Jeffree Star, Lena Love and even Shinan Giovani.

Kealan Sullivan of 69 Vintage sold her car for new lucite shoes for the event and star stylist Maha made a statement dressed up as french fries! Seriously!

Overall, the club is gorgeous - one can spend the entire night walking around the many rooms, hallways, levels and bars checking out the art installations and decor.

Underground at TIFF

The Toronto International Film Festival is over and we are now just un-reeling from the dozens of parties that took place throughout the city!

Worth mentioning was the 'Underground TIFF Film Italia' event that took place at the infamous Lower Bay Subway Station beneath Yorkville - a locale that closed in 1966 and is now used only for big-budget film.

The Italian Trade Commission and Boutique Le Trou hosted a fashionable evening attended by black and white clad revellers that included Project Runway's Michael Hatley. Performance artist and costume designer Christobel stole the girls' thunder when he made an appearance in one of his elaborate party frocks!

Girl's Night out with Men of Steel: CK Party

To celebrate Calvin Klein's 25 years in the booty business my friend and fellow fashion blogger Anita Clarke [I want I got blog] and I went to the Brant House on King St West, to party with 25 nearly naked men!

I decided to make the night all about Anita, and just take her photo with everyone! As she is just back from NYC fashion week and told me she wanted to get back into the Toronto loop. The night began with a CK underwear fashion show featuring hot bodies - men and women. Any free space around the raised runway [eye level with hips and butts = awesome!] was packed with CK fans and everyone had a camera or camera phone - my photos from the night feature more shots of other peoples cameras than anything. Why does nudity always cause a frenzy? I wanted to ask Anita, but she was busy given it the old 'Woot Woot' to the men of steel. Celebrity model Rebecca, the winner of Canada's Next Top Model, took to the stage in her CK nickers. Unfortunately she walks like a surf board and looks like she hates being on stage. Pouting is one thing and usually an acceptable model expression, but frowning. There were other people after the show who were critical of her lack of showmanship. It's lingerie honey - you got to wiggle a little!
Post show we hung out in the VIP area with Deep Dish's Rolyn Chambers and birthday boy MAHA who just happened to have a camera man has part of his entourage filming his every move including his breaking of a silver dome on the floor - he thought it was a chair to pose on. But he broke it and legs went flying akimbo, it was terribly funny!

Heading out Anita and get to the fun bit of attending events - The Gift Bag. We thought this one was pretty good. A CK Naked thong, a gift certificate for a pair of CK men of steel underpants [for the man in my life], CK flip-flops, a note book, a nail file, a business card holder and a wee 15 ml of Euphoria for men. You can tell from the look on Anita's face that it was a super fun night.

New Queen Street H&M Party - Just like Fashion Week

The new Queen Street H&M opening party reminded me of the first blush of Fashion Week.
The placed was crawling with fashion people from editors, stylists, models, fashion bloggers and photographers. Everyone who is anyone in fashion was there last night. It was so fun meeting up with the Toronto fashion community and getting to shop at the same time!

Fast fashion devotees were stumbling around H&M buried under the weight of clothes and accessories. The only draw back here was there were virtually no mirrors in the shop. Just a few free standing mirrors here and there - ridiculous! Do you know how vain the fashion community is - we need our mirrors!

Whilst strolling around the two floors of the new shop I ran into major fashion devotee Jeanne Beker standing in an aisle trying on vests one after the other. All the while, clothes are falling off hangers on to the floor around her. "It's like being in a candy store," she tells me. Jeanne is not the only big-wig shopping for her life as I am practically railroaded by FDCC President Robin Kay with an arm load full of garments. Unfortunately she tipped her mojito down the side of most of the clothes. Oh, did I mention there were two open bars - very smart way to get people to open their wallets. All shops should serve alcohol really; it would be better for the economy. Anyways, Robin tells me that for Fashion Week she is just going to pitch some tents at Nathan Phillips Square. And by the way could I write the press release? Ya, you bloody bet I will - anything to save going down to Liberty Grand in no-man's land. My stylist for the night Jefre Nicholls is thrilled, "Let's all pitch tents for Fashion Week!"

Besides the drinking and non-stop fashion gossip there was some good stuff to be bought at H&M. Of course the women's selection far exceeded what was on offer for men. A few of the men I spoke to were disappointed. They feel the men's section just offered a few basic goods, and most of the stuff you could find at the Gap or better yet Zara. I did a wander around the men's area and have to say the highlight was the underpants and socks selection. The briefs are super cute with lots of colour and designs and I loved the 'Monday to Sunday' sock pack.
It was a super party! Anyone who missed it will be kicking themselves today. And I must say the catering was fabulous - for my next event I will book Catering with Style.

Oligarchy Holiday Launch Party

by Irene Stickney

Exams aren't quite over yet, but Torontostreetfashion spotted several sequin-clad fashionistas who ditched their studies for stilettos Wednesday night at Oligarchy's 'Holiday Launch Party' at Lavish & Squalor.

Fashion students Anika Koslowski and Jenny Fancy both admitted they had exams the next day - but it didn't stop them from showing their support for Toronto Fashion!!! Layered scarves, piles of bling and lots of sparkly Christmas sweaters made the holiday mood shine - and speaking of shine, mark my words - copper nail polish is going to be huge this season.

Oligarchy's new line, which has grown from simple jersey t-shirts to include jersey dresses, separates and tailored menswear was modelled by Scandal Scouts Ella, Mina and Lulu Laforce, as well as guitarist/singer Care Failure. Care, who was playing the Bovine with her band 'The Bloody Manniquins' at CMW when she was just sixteen, posed on-set with Jon Burford, (one of Oligarchy's brother/sister designers) in his vintage-inspired prints.
Lately photosets have been popping up everywhere at parties it seems - NOW had one, Whippersnapper had one and Oligarchy, too. I guess everyone wants to be a model!! Actually, everyone DID look like a model - this was the best-dressed party Toronto has seen for a while. Plus all those holiday sweaters has put me in the mood for some rum, eggnog and a little Bing Crosby. Thanks, Oligarchy!!!

LG Chocolate Phone

Hosted by High Road Communications who recruited the most connected gal in T.O. , Danielle Iversen of That PR Thing, to wrangle in celebs all over the city for the launch of the sexy new LG Chocolate cell phone., November 2, 2006.

This fancy, fashion-themed party took place at the exlusive Windsor Arms Hotel (where they still have toilet seat covers in the loo) where camera crews, photographers, models and ticket winners alike noshed on complimentary Godiva white chocolate martinis and the most delectable chocolate sushi! (lest we forget cotton candy, chocolate mousse, gourmet h'ors doevres...)

People dressed to impress, most in the usual 'party' wear: some dresses and off-the-rack 'mall' shirts, although there always are one or two who take that extra step to show some style...

Leather Fetish

Northbound Leather celebrates 20 years at 'Decadence' its annual extravaganza of fashionable leather wear. Think sex, sexy, sinful!

Read Atropa's account >>
"Legions of the sinfully fashionable crushed into the Docks to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Northbound Leather – Canada’s premier store for sexual clothing, shoes, accessories and equipment. The warm, feral scent of leather would have made Venus tremble in her furs, and tortuously tight corsets were the uniform of many a maiden ready for a fall. Leathermen and dominas, naughty nurses and wicked policemen, roughly three thousand fetishists abandoned the banality of everyday life to lose themselves in a night of unbridled sexual fantasy."

Read about Daniel's encounters >>
"The party began with a lengthy video of clips and outtakes from past fashion shows, followed by this year's show. There were muscular guys in leather dog masks sniffing each other's bums, nuns in leather hoods, trans models strutting their stuff, geisha girls, pimps, hoes and myriad other forbidden delights. As odd as it sounds, I wished they pushed the envelope more. It was a bit predictable."

The People's Boutique Fashion

For the first "Quarterly", Kealan and the 69 Vintage gang transformed the neighbouring hangout, The Social into a fashion warehouse to present The People's Boutique Fall mens line. Stencilled cardboard boxes, brown drafting paper and a makeshift runway (the bar) lent to the effect. At one end, male models were "unwrapped" by two hot chicks and sent down an assembly line in metallic leather jackets, tattered suits, and skinny pants. Nearly every item is uniquely handpainted, trimmed or embellished in signature People's Boutique style!

Labour of Love Party - The Tent

The Guvernment, September 3 2006

If you see the tent a rock’n…that’s cause it is! Actually, it was literally jumping on fire, with cute guys in orange boiler suits on bouncy shoes giving the crowd a show and fireworks lighting up the sky overhead. For those of you who missed the massive Labour of Love party because you were fishing out on the lake, Labour of Love was the big end of summer blow-out party for the clubbers of Toronto. Six rooms plus an outdoor tent hosted 40 DJ’s and performance artists until 7 a.m. TSF was there and by midnight every room was filled to maximum capacity with hot bodies.

The Pink Mafia hosted Tent was our refuge as it had the best vibe and the illustrious Princess Superstar as special guest! Also playing The Tent was Chris Laroque, The Juan Maclean, Tommie Sunshine and Boys Noize. Hosts Anna Von Frances and Dan Lavoie had their fare share of ass to pinch all night. Fashion being flaunted was on the casual side; lots of cotton to let the sweat dry off. Gals and Boys in fancy hats, with fancy hair-dos. And lots of graphic t-shirts.

Dance-Off Again

Sneaky Dee’s, August 25, 2006

Dance-Off was yet again a fashion filled funky dance party. The crowd was still sporting many summer trends: hats on chaps; shirt dresses with belted waists on chicks; lots of stripes on tops; tight skinny leg jeans. The hosts wore matching day-glo orange baseball hats and sexy, stretch tube tops. Don’t miss the next event. Get on the Dance-Off site on myspace.com for updates, event announcements and hilarious blogs about the underground Dance-Off events.
Happy Birthday Irene!
