Surprised I haven't come across this before - Naked Eye is "Canada's new nationwide publication covering today's pop culture. Through articles, interviews, and capsules, Naked Eye provides its readers the latest information on music, film, fashion, television, food, technology, celebrities, and sexual issues." It is features, event pix, blog and tv!

We love hearing about new Canadian rags! In an enjoyable and convenient magazine format, The Dinner Jacket is a three issue in, monthly online glossy - hailing from Ottawa - that features local fashion photography and arts & culture articles.
It's super easy to zoom in, save your favorite pics and navigate through the entire issue.

I came across a blog post from 'Canadian Magazines' blog where the blogger quotes a Forbes Magazine article that states Cindi Leive, the editor of Glamour magazine, is America's most influential fashion editor (not Anna Wintour).
** What's most interesting is the slew of comments on who could be Canada's most influential fashion editor - between Fashion's Ceri Marsh and Flare's Lisa Tant. **
Cindi Leive was named because apparently Glamour reached its highest circulation ever (taking online circulation numbers into account). I'm certainly no expert on the subject, but I hardly think that is what secures the title of 'Most Influential Fashion Editor'. The people at Forbes are definitely not reading Vogue or InStyle daily.
In Canada, however, where numerous new magazines have popped up (and folded) in just the past five years, most people aren't familiar with the leading ladies behind our top fashion mags (or couldn't care less). Through further Googling, I came across these interesting articles featuring Canada's apparent Top Two:
Ryerson Review of Journalism (2006)
Fashion magazine editor-in-chief Ceri Marsh shows that good manners still go a long way
Fashion editors may look like Barbie, says Flare's Lisa Tant. But we're GI Joe underneath. Meet one of the toughest...

The new ZINK Canada magazine has been floating around for a month or two now (sold @ Indigo among others) but I only recently acquired my copy ($6) chock full of Canadian features, Canadian designer ads and multiple photo shoots put together by Canadian stylists et al...
However, with all this emphasis on maintaining relevance of the premiere Canadian issue - the cover (and feature photo editorial) contradicts the message: Covergirl Reid was shot by New York-based Canadian photographer Geoff Barrenger; New York-based stylist Tracy Cyprow used an American designer dress (Betsey Johnson) and hair and make-up were contracted out to American agencies.
Editor-at-large, Adrian Mainella, 'gets to the bottom of Canada's fashion dilemma' pointing out our problem of a lower GDP (we spend less than others); our turn-on to international labels; lack of branding; and no ONE relevant national fashion week (for international buyers).
The mag covers beauty, music, gadgets a little food and travel and many fashion spreads. 4 issues/year.

I recently renewed my subscription to Toronto Life magazine - an exclusively T.O. monthly mag with current politics, Urban Decoder, restaurants & entertainment, people & fashion and themed CityGuides. ($24 year includes 10 issues of FASHION).
Although I tend to hold on to stacks of copies (for reference??), I'm often on the Toronto Life website in the Shopping section and its shop reviews, fashion faces profiles and Good Stuff Cheap.
One of my favorite sections is On the Block, where the writer looks at specific areas of the city (Parkdale, Yorkville...) and reviews 5-10 shops in that neighbourhood, complete with a map pinpointing all locations - a great resource for planning your next shopping/browsing outing!

One of Canada's most gorgeous high-fashion mags, Lush Magazine is in for a growth overhaul, planned by its new owner Bassett Publishing.
Launched in 1995, Lush is known for its extraordinary fashion spreads, the hand-drawn typography and design of Paul Sych, and especially for making famous faces fashionable cover girls including Hilary Duff, Chantal Kreviazuk and recently Taryn Manning.
Founders/art directors Mahfud Ibrahim and Mark Keast of the Pennant Media Group will remain creative forces with the magazine, while Bassett Publishing plans to increase business and the number of distributed copies to 150,000 by next Spring. Currently, Lush is inserted in national newspapers throughout the country and at newstands over the world (including Indigo).
Coming up:
- a profile on Canada's hottest up-and-coming actress, Ellen Page;
- British Sea Power's front man discussing the band's forthcoming album;
- east-side exposure on the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York;
- an equestrian-inspired fashion story;
- as well as a beauty story about sugar's aging properties, and;
- a social theory story on how cocaine travels the globe to its users.

When it comes to our insatiable appetite for fashion press we are spoilt for choice. Pick up a hardcopy fashion magazine; go online and cruise numerous style websites and online mags; read blogs and listen to trend driven podcasts.
But what about the state of fashion being represented in our local newspaper dailies and weeklies?
Are we happy with the level of style coverage that hardcopy newspapers give the city of Toronto?
Personally, I find the Toronto Star fashion section always begging for more on Thursdays. I do enjoy the Eye Weekly style profiles, as you get to learn a bit about the local person behind the clothes. NOW magazine really strives to celebrate Toronto designers and shops and the fashionnotes section is valuable for finding out what is going on in the city.
Tell us what paper or local mag rag you read for fashion content and why you like it. Who out there is doing a good job and who needs work.
