As is custom, designers, media and local celebs gathered in the swank handbag section of Holt Renfrew Bloor Street Monday night to kick-0ff a week-long celebration of fashion in the city (official kick-off was earlier in the day at the tent).

Style-wise, looks seemed a little more subdued than the usual label-in-your-face wear - with a lot of black and equally as much denim. I'm so happy I opted for comfort over super style and wore my wedge boots instead of the platform stilettos most of the ladies rocked - I comfortably noticed that the crowd painfully shifted from foot to foot during the standard, lengthy speeches by Holt Renfrew fashion director Barb Atkins, FDCC Pres Robin Kay and one of the sponsors (that we're all so thankful for:) Otherwise, there was a little lace, some chiffon-y collars and slick-look tights.
