Lomography Design for Threadless - Design Competition


The Lomographic Society International (dedicated to experimental and creative analog photography) and Threadless are challenging designers to create a tee inspired by one of the “10 Golden Rules of Lomography” including:

Lomography Rule #1: Take Your Camera Everywhere you Go
Lomography Rule #2: Use it Anytime, Day and Night
Lomography Rule #4: Try the Shot from the Hip
Lomography Rule #6: Don’t think
Lomography Rule #7: Be Fast
Lomography Rule #10: Don’t Worry About Any Rules

Up for grabs are the ultimate tools needed for photographers to commmunicate, absorb, and capture the world including the iconic Lomo LC-A+ camera with LC-A+ wide-angle lens, the DianaF+ with fisheye lens, the world's first compact fisheye camera (Fisheye 2), 10 rolls of LomoX-Pro film, and a lot more. In addition, the designer chosen gets $2k in cash.

Short Fashion Movie Contest

The Rage, 13 Kensington Ave is organizing a short movie contest. The contest is open to everybody: students or simply creative people.

Topic: The rage superhero fights the villains profit, conformity and industry!

You have 2 minutes max to create about the subject.
It can be anything you want: drawing, puppets, documentary, modeling clay.....

Your Chance to Style Lucinda

RAGS AND MAGS MMVA STYLING CONTEST

Rags and Mags will attend the Much Music Video Awards and Revolver After Party. You can design outfits for Lucinda and Max.

Lucinda McRuvy will interview red carpet stars and Max Velosse will sneak into the Much Music Video Awards. Both require styling assistance. That is where you come in! Lucinda and Max want to know what you think they should wear to Queen Street West's biggest party.

Two winning outfits will be selected, one for each character. Winners will receive the original inked line art signed by the illustrator, 25 postcards featuring their winning outfit, and will be name-dropped in the MMVA post as a Rags and Mags character.

Here are the rules:

1. Clothing and accessories must be by Canadian designers, sold at Canadian stores, or be an original design by contest entrant.
2. Entries must reflect the fashion sense and budget for each character.
3. Entries do not have to be fashion illustrations, but must include graphic references. It could be a photo or illustration collage. Entries will not be judged on artistic merit, but on the appropriateness of the outfit for the character.
4. Readers can enter an outfit for Max or Lucinda or both. Readers can enter as many outfits as they want for either character.
5. There is no dollar value attributed to this contest.
6. Danielle Meder and Carolyn Rohaly reserve the right to interpret the outfit and contest entrant name in the way they deem appropriate to the website and storyline.
7. All entries must be sent to ragsandmags@gmail.com.
8. Contest closes Friday June 13.
9. Winners will be revealed on Monday June 16 at Rags and Mags.

Rags and Mags was launched in March 2008 during L'Oreal Fashion Week. It is a voyeuristic peek into the thoughts of two fictional characters as they work and play within the real fashion industry in Toronto, Canada. It is written by Carolyn Rohaly and illustrated by Danielle Meder.

C1 art space is announcing a CALL FOR SUBMISSION for their 2nd annual Artist T-shirts and Tops Show!
This exhibit will continue to feature originally designed artist t-shirts and apparel. From quirky and cute to witty and weird, we’re looking for a variety of designs. This year we will also be including a section for Artists Pins & Buttons as well. The more designs the merrier.

FAT Call for Entries

TORONTO ALTERNATIVE FASHION WEEK [FAT] is back for another exciting year of fashion, performance, visual art and music presentations set for April 2008.

The Toronto Alternative Fashion Week [FAT] is Toronto's first ever, alternative fashion event that is geared towards the promotion and exposure of up and coming talent in the fields of fashion, art and music. What is defined by alternative, is [FAT]'s diverse approach in the representation of fashion.

[FAT] comprises of the intertwining of various mediums and stresses the fusion existing between fashion, music and art. Any medium, materials, messages, visual presentations and performance used to deal with fashion in a new, exciting and unorthodox way are all encouraged to be explored.

TOO MAGAZINE Contest in Toronto!


Too Magazine is looking for Canadian independent Photographers, Fashion/Accessory Designers and Visual Artists for its next issue, "Androgyny"!

PHOTOGRAPHERS: We are very NON-Commercial, so go wild with your artistic side.

VISUAL ARTISTS: Be it sculpture, painting, digital illustrations, videos, mulit-media, even performance pieces, any medium is fine!

FASHION / ACCESSORY DESIGNERS: Be careful, larger than life is awesome, but do not submit designs that are too cheesy and may come across as costumes, other than fashion.

PRIZE: Finalists selected in each category will be showcased at the Too Magazine Canadian launch party at Drake Lounge on Oct 17th. Also, all finalists will have one piece of their works showcased in the Too Magazine, along with mini bio and interview. The photographer, artist and designer voted as the party's favourite will each get a 2 to 8-page feature of their work in the next issue of Too Magazine. Gallery 1313 Call for Entry



Looking for designers for a runway show on Oct. 17, 2007 @ Gallery 1313 (Queen St. W.)

Participants will be selected by a jury including Russsell Smith (from the Globe Fashion), and Robin Kay, FDCC. Submissions should include jpegs or sketches, description of works, CV.

This is a wearable art show. Accepted designers must attend a rehearsal.

Project Runway Canada


Great news for Canadian fashion junkies: Project Runway Canada is on its way, scheduled to air October 8, 2007 @ 10 p.m. on the Slice Network.

The designers have been announced and include some familiar faces, fabulously talented locals and even a couple self-taught designers:

We're watching out for Lucien Matis, an incredibly creative, relocated Torontonian, who has been capturing media attention since his L'Oreal Fashion Week debut this past spring. Local designer Shernett Swaby joins the group and we just wonder where she finds the time, what with running her successful boutique Swaby and designing every beautiful high-end piece in it!

Supermodel Iman hosts the series and is joined by judges/designers Brian Bailey and Shawn Hewson, as well as Elle Canada editor, Rita Silvan.

The Slice - Project Runway Canada website provides a complete destination for profiles, videos, behind-the-scenes dirt and even designer blogs! Can't wait!

The Art of Fashion Trunk Show follows a week later, where artists have a chance to sell their creations to fashion buyers and the public at large.

Discover the unexpected in fashion where rising Canadian designers will showcase their Nuit Blanche exclusive collections as part of the Art of Fashion 2007: Surreal Journey design competition. Designers will vie for the title of Most Promising Designer by creating a collection of garments based off their interpretation of this year's theme: Surreal Journey.

"You be the Judge" - with onsite voting, Nuit Blanche attendees will have the power to determine which Canadian designer should receive the award for Most Promising Designer in 2007. This new interactive platform will engage the public and elevate the profile of fashion as a true expression of art and creativity. Attendees will have the chance to see first hand the designers' vision come to life as they represent their collection by creating unique backdrops and merchandised displays of their creative inspiration.

Designers are required to submit 5 illustrations inspired by this years theme "Surreal Journey". Entries are due by August 31st and must be willing to participate in the filming of a documentary video "The Art of Fashion Design". Canada's Next Top Model Finale Airs Wednesday, July 18th on Citytv

With seven episodes down and only four girls remaining, "Canada's Next Top Model" is ready to crown its winner on the exciting season finale this Wednesday @ 8 p.m.

They've taken on nude photo shoots, pole dancing, a team of hockey players, window washers, not to mention the expert panel and an entire season of drama with the six other model hopefuls. But now it's down to Rebecca, Sinead, Tara and Tia, one of whom will walk away with a $100,000 beauty contract from P&G Beauty, a modelling contract with top agency Sutherland Models and an editorial spread in FASHION Magazine.

Cover Guy Auditions

New Labels Competiton

The Elle Canada New Labels Award is an annual event and competition that catapults one winning label to local stardom. The winner claims the title of ELLE Canada New Labels Designer of the Year and wins a prize package valued at over $25,000, including a one-page editorial in ELLE Canada magazine.

01.618 by Engelbert Gayagoy brings a Parisian background and a penchant for poetry into the mix. His use of high-tech sportswear fabrics, created for extreme weather conditions ties into his theme of "Protection".

Malak by Kalam Lee, a Ryerson fashion design graduate, introduces a rich, 'crafty' collection made up mostly of dresses, with details such as crocheting and smocking.

Ozen by Phoebe Gao and Enfys Zhuo, George Brown graduates, present their first collection of simple, harmonious clothes. Neutral colours black, grey and white dominate this timeless selection, and the silhouettes are kept streamline and natural.
