Robin
Angell, Fashion Designer
Toronto Alternative Fashion Week [FAT]
Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006
Robin Angell has been sewing for over 12 years and selling her line
of 'Ludo and Pig' clothing for four years. She is also a student
of Toxicology at Windsor (in her own words a “frog doctor”).
What
are you doing for fashion week?
The [FAT] show is my first fashion show!
Why is [FAT] important?
[FAT] is so important because it’s for the people who are
actually dressing themselves. You don’t see stuff like this
being shown anywhere else. Clothing is one of the few art forms
everyone participates in.
Who or what inspires you?
My entire collection is inspired by friends and family. My grandmother
taught me a lot of the techniques incorporated in my collection.
Fabric came from my best friends' T-shirts and was then distressed
and sewn into rag-rug texture and appliqué details.
I
am also inspired by my mom who used to make costumes for kids in
grade school. She would intentionally leave ragged hems and exposed
stitches.
The
dress I'm wearing was inspired by a robin red-breast. It has a large
red disc on the front and delicate appliqué leaves on the
shoulders.
What do you like/dislike about this event?
Well this is my first show and its only the first night...I just
hope to have a lot of fun!
