Jason Meyers Spring/Summer 2007 show @ Maro
By Tiffanie Ing

It may have been an unusually chilly October night, but Jason Meyers' bright whites and bold colours had us feeling summer breezes in his pre-Fashion Week show at Maro.

Don’t believe the dates—Fashion Week started a few days early this year as industry professionals such as FDCC President Robin Kay, Boutique Le Trou owner Marlene Shiff, NOW Fashion Editor Andrew Sardone, and other fashion VIPs streamed into Maro’s lounge-y red interior to see rising Toronto designer Jason Meyers new pieces, but also to do a couple rounds at the ultimate pre-Fashion Week party before the craziness began.

Meyers' line, called “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” focuses on cut-out edges, colour on white, backless details, and enormous ruffles and bows. While many looks have punches of bright yellow, green, purple and pink, the monochrome pieces stole the show in their simplicity and showcase of Meyers' sharp cuts, and draping details. The piece de resistance is a stunning fuschia pink trench coat with a spectacular bow cinched at the waist. The clothing looks light enough for a sultry summer day while still affording the wearer an individual look.

Meyers' family was in attendance for the evening—grandparents, uncles, aunts, and more were toasting to his success. His proud mama says although Meyers had mentioned following in her accounting footsteps as a child, his passion has always been fashion. She credits Meyers' girlfriend as instrumental in the design of this line, and was brimming with excitement at the success of the show.
