Fairweather
The Fairweather show had a distinctive soccer-mom
goes to cocktail party vibe. The almost all black and white show
had houndstooth, ruffles, plaids, slinky dresses, long coats, fake
fur and all the other trimmings one would expect.
Early on, a model trailing a cashmere-like shawl
behind her nearly caught the thing on fire on the lit candles adorning
the runway - which seemed to be a missed chance for a Fairweather
headline in the press. A witty gentleman next to me commented that
he would settle for Fairweather but would prefer a sunny day.
Catty fashion commentary aside, Fairweather is
a strong Canadian brand that fulfills the needs of its market to
a T. Talking to Kim and Serena of Fairweather, they related the
pride of their brand, being a Canadian institution since 1869, and
successfully dressing “all women of all ages and all lifestyles”.
They were a little vague when asked why they picked
Izaac Mizrahi and not a Canadian designer. “We wanted to create
a long term strategic alliance with someone that would be with us
for many seasons.” When asked if they could pick any Canadian
at the moment Sarena said Andy The-Ahn is someone she herself loves.
