Varying points of view...
Andy The-Ahn
by Daniel Wilson
I am aware that many people loved the Andy The-Ahn
show, I did not. However I will begin with what I did like.
Great over-sized leather short jackets in metallic
silver. There were an amazing pair of very au-currant skinny jeans
in metallic silver, a few stunning, long satin gowns and a Gucci-esque
white suit that were all super sexy.
Aside from the wonderful pieces, many of the outfits
seemed from the set of the 80’s soap opera Dynasty. A metallic
brocade fabric was used several times that even from three rows
up looked cheap; several skirts were pleated on an angle in the
front in such a way that any one other than a 90lbs model would
look obese, or like a fertility goddess. And to top it all off,
near the end a fabric was used that I can only describe as metallic-rainbow-floral
print. Unspeakable.
Andy The-Anh
by Tiffanie Ing
In a week of pleasant pastel runway shows and polite
applause, Andy The-Anh's spring/summer line is the bold wind that
whips us out of our seats. A standing ovation greets Andy's pieces,
which includes sleek cut-out backs, sharply cut suits, dark drape
dresses with metallic lace, and too-sexy 40s bandeau swimwear. This
is definitive dressing for sex.
Wearable, yet voluptuous, The-Anh starts with dark
pieces in line with the navies and browns of fall and moves fearlessly
into knock-down bang-out summer with searing hot pinks and leafy
greens accompaning tucks and pleats. Ruffled sleeves give a feminine
look to sharply cut jackets, and the perfect circle clasp belt cinches
the waist.
I love the African inspired prints, booming with
colour, yet whimsical with shirred sleeves and ruching. Sonja (Andic)
gasps at the high-necked gold lame and lace gown, floor-length and
subtly shimmering as it slips down the runway. We both go agog at
a silver leather jacket over a cocktail dress. Cuts and trimmings
aside, The-Anh's forte is taking the colours of the season and deepening
them, giving us rich hues of red and dark metallics with a touch
of Victorian class. Va-va-voom, he's bring sexy back!
