Day 2 –
Tuesday, October 18, 2005 – Jayn Simpson, Common Cloth, Andy The-Anh
I’m
wearing: These amazing sling back heels with a peep toe I got
in London UK. The rep from Town Shoes in the front row for Jayn Simpson
even asked to have a closer look at them. Worn with dark green wool pantaloons
and a runched grey sweater from River Island, and my vintage mink cape
bought for a song last x-mas at 69 Vintage on Queen St West. I only wear
vintage or faux fur just so you know.
The second
day waltzing into Muzik I notice instantly how much more glamorous everyone
is looking in the crowds milling about. This is probably helped along
by the team of manicurists and makeup artists present for SpaBaby, Fashion
Magazine and L’Oreal MakeUp. And it is all complementary of course.
Got to love it!
Jayn
Simpson
This show I was excited about just based on the press kit, as I loved
the dreamy, jazzy sort of smoky press photos that showed her designs.
I would say Jayn’s style is ‘super-lady-like’ which
I agree with most of the time. Very sensible. However, the show was not
as strong as her press kit unfortunately. Her trump card was her two piece
suits with hats in a matching fabric. Jayn is so strong with her delicate
lookin wee skirt suits in tweed and wool crepe, worn with floaty chiffon
blouses. The rest of it I could hardly mention.
And I honestly
feel that her models could have been better invested in. I thought her
bridal ‘creation’ was really let down by the model with the
arm that looked frozen or gimpy banging against her thigh. Not very bridal
I’m afraid.
I did really like the music for this show…….
Common
Cloth
This show was not on the catwalk, but in the main auditorium staged on
a large oriental carpet with about seven models dressed in Common Cloth
clothes, frozen like store mannequins. Two little gals danced around,
whilst whimsical music played, and arranged these living dolls and their
clothes into freeze-frame poses. I really really liked it! Yes, and I
also liked the clothes. Bermuda shorts, skinny leg trousers, pleated and
full skirts topped with Sailor Moon style tops and blouses.

The fabrics
and prints reminded of me of clothes I wore when I was a young teenager.
Especially a dusty blue chiffon blouse, with metallic silver pinstripes
and a ruffed high collar. Very 1984 I thought. The large prints of magnolia
flowers on the clothes made me reminisce about a picture book I had as
a wee gal called ‘All The Pretty Little Horses’. Girlyness
was well reflected in the presentation and styling of this show and the
models. The models did look like toy dolls you could play with. They had
cute ponytails with cream ribbon bows and long curling false eyelashes
and dolly red cheeks. A memorable display of talent by designers and sisters
Kristina and Melanie Bozzo. The perfect summer wardrobe I’d say
for an ultra feminine fashionista.
Andy
The-Anh
Okay, the buzz before this show was ‘This is the Show!’.
All I heard was, Andy this and Andy that. It was a hustle to get inside
to see his delights. When it was all over I could understand why…..Wow!

Andy does
glean brilliance from the top names in fashion. Strong influences of Halston,
YSL and Donna Karen were in the mix. Andy got it right on, with a city-slick
70’s vibe. His designs seemed to do it all: salsa, military, executive,
baby doll, safari, victorian, folk…all rolled together in a sexy
but professional bedhead kind of style and it truly worked!!! It was amazing
to see all these different fashion directions all merging together into
a coherent stream of incredibly wearable cloths. Such attention to detail.
Pleats, high collars, pockets, rivets, buttons, belting, seams all flawless
and perfect in every way. Does this man ever sleep? I truly did want to
buy it all.
