Fashion Week Awards
Best Swag Bag:
Sonja’s favorite was the Ukula goodie bag: a delicious cookies,
Soho Lychee booze and Nars makeup and The Assistant’s fave: official
L’Oreal bag – Melissa now has a pair of ceramic straightening
irons and she feels blessed!
Quote of the week:
George Browne, CanWest - “Ladies, we are not communicating.”
Best off-site show:
Ukula on College Street – it was such a drama!
Best show on-site:
David Dixon – the fire, the chocolate, the HBC blankets! So Canadiana!
Most memorable moment:
Sonja taking to the stage at Maro to do a Zoolander style model walk-off
and The Assistant Melissa getting her photo taken with Glen Baxter at
SD+R party.
Most memorable fashion design of fashion week:
Pat’s penguin dress! Go on lady save the world with fashion!
Most common fashion accessory:
The BIG bag – ouch, we are black and blue from being repeatedly
banged with numerous over-sized sacs all week!
Best fashion week DJ
Jason Meyers of course! Get down to his funky town!
Thinnest person at fashion week: A tie between Bronwyn
Cosgrave and Kimberley Newport-Mimran
Highest hair:
Robin Kay – they must put something in her drinks to get her that
high!
Best food:
Holt’s Cocktail Party – the salmon and sweet tarts, couldn’t
get enough
Most Industry-Friendly Award:
Tevrow and Chase’s breakfast in their Adelaide St. showroom gave
buyers and media a close-up look at designs with milling models, work
on the rack and a wall of sketches.
Best Field Trip:
After waiting 45 minutes for a five minute bus ride, media were whisked
away to the Joe Fresh show and showered with caviared gnocci, seared
tuna and chocolate mousse.
Sweetest Sponsor:
Many were left wondering if Fashion Week was sponsored by the Easter
Bunny as we gobbled up an inexhaustible supply of Cadbury’s chocolates.
Thanks for the slim 100 calories – but what happens when you eat
twelve?!
Best Model Award:
This goes out to the model who, after many valiant attempts at walking
in rebelling shoes, simply showed her spunk by tearing them off and
walking down the runway in her stocking feet. The audience, who were
already feeling every complaining bone in our stiletto bound feet cheered
like football fans.
Best in Show:
Tien Le’s breathtaking Japanese-inspired collection of hand-woven
Kyoto silks stole the show. The Birks diamond studded imperial wedding
kimono was definitely the jewel in Fashion Week’s crown.
