Ashley Stellar and Jodi Posh take on Fashion Week

Toronto’s Fashion Scene
Discovering the Insides a Fashion Innovator’s Mind

What do you think of Toronto’s fashion scene?

I’m from Vancouver- this is my first time in Toronto. We came down for Fashion Week this season. We are fashion design students visiting the city to understand more about the industry here. In Vancouver it’s so much more casual- everyone is in jeans all the time. In Toronto it seems like people are more aware of creating a look, and there’s a lot of culture to be inspired by.

I think right now, as far as the age of majority, that the fashion scene is a mix of vintage and world. You see bold solids mixed with prints, different materials matched together (i.e. denim and velvet), accessorizing without overdoing it, and a lot of 80's inspired styles. The younger groups seem to either veer toward hip hop style, or "scene", which is basically a fitted band t-shirt, dark denim, and a pair of chucks. I think once teens get older, they become much more open and adventurous about style, and are braver when a chance comes to "break the mold". I think around age 19/20 is when people become finalized with the type of style they're most comfortable in.

Glam is making a bigger comeback too. Bright makeup and big hair.

Well you see the neutral tones really contrast with the bright decor of most of the outside garments. I personally feel that the image as a whole is one of more determination and appeal.

I think a lot of fashion today focuses around the whole vintage/retro look. The look is more “rock” inspired but I think I can see it drifting towards a more classical approach, focusing more on feminine things such as lace. I can definitely see a more traditional look coming back.

Paying high cost to look like a drifter. A drifter with fancy scarves. These days it’s never been more In to look like an outcast.

I think the city's style is definitely eccentric because of its diversity, but it's a beautiful mesh.

Our Favorite Swag Bag Product

In our media bags we found some great goodies. My favourite by far is the Volume Shocking mascara! It's a two-step application, and the result is EXTRA LONG, DEFINED, GORGEOUS lashes that flutter. Now, I've tried these two-steppers before, and have not been pleased. The first coat is almost conditioning to the lashes. I've had people ask me if I'm wearing false eyelashes. It washes off easily, too. If there's anything your make-up bag needs, it's this mascara!"
