If you haven't heard of Pink Tartan, you
will. What is mostly a conservative label of well-made, attractive
separates is evolving to become a trendy collection suited
for women of all ages.
For its Fall/Winter 2006 Toronto show, famous
Canadian fiddler Ashley MacIsaac hyped up the VIP crowd before
top model Heather Marks romped the runway in a pink tartan
suit. This was followed by designer Kimberly Newport Mimran's
vision of London street fashion in the late '60s: velvet skinny
pants and jackets in blue and burgendy, candy-coloured plaids,
big collars and turtlenecks, and mod-style dresses and coats.
Such a fabulous distraction from the gloom of dark winter
clothing shown all week!
With a hand in every aspect of creating her
line, Kim Mimran says she is inspired by fabrics and uses
tweeds and satins mixed with washed tartans and pinstripes.
There is even a little denim this season, giving the collection
a younger feel.
With a lot of determination and business
smarts, Kim has successfully positioned Pink Tartan as a definite
favorite among the Toronto fashion industry with its complete
line-up of a wearable, trendy and focused collection. And
media-magnet shows complete with top models give it the most
coverage every season.
