Ryerson Fashion Students get Enchanted

The Lancôme Colour Design
Awards are a pretty good gig for Toronto. It’s a fantastic
opportunity for make-up artists and up and coming fashion designers to
get their names and talent exposed. The annual Lancôme event aims
to combine the world of make-up and fashion, and present creations by
selected MUA’s and design students on a fashion show template. Five
MUA’s and ten designers get to compete but only one person from
each group can win.
Fashion Design at Home
It was pretty lucky year for 10 Ryerson University School of Fashion students.
Fifty students applied for this prestigious award with only 10 chosen
as finalists and one winner. It all started with students creating a mini-collection
of outfits inspired by the Lancôme Spring/Summer Make-Up Muse –
The Enchantress. The student’s designs were judged on Colour and
Texture, Innovation and Femininity.
The Winners
Fashion Design
The 2005 fashion design winner was Joanna Song from Ryerson. Her winning
dress is modern and gorgeous! Joanna’s inspiration is capturing
the distinctiveness of people and things around her. She takes all the
unique elements she sees and combines them to enhance individual beauty
in her creations. Well done Joanna!
Enchanting Make-Up
There was just a wee bit more pressure and competition going between the
make-up artists chasing after the Colour Design Award. The MUA’s
had to create two original makeup looks for the day of the awards, and
apply one of the looks to one a model, live in front of camera crews,
swarming journalists and fashionistas. All five MUA’s had to create
original make-up looks inspired by the new Lancôme Spring/Summer
make-up palette The Enchantress designed by famed international MUA Gucci
Westman.
This year’s winner was the extremely charming Boriana
Stoilkova from Toronto who says her inspiration is the human face. She
uses make-up to bring out the magic and unique qualities for the face
and personality. Good luck to our local gal in future!
Both winners got lots of prize money to spend, oodles
of Lancome products, a trip to Paris and a trophy for their respective
mantels.
And yes, in closing, I must say that Toronto Fashionistas
were alive and well at this Lancôme Fashion event. Here are some
of the hottie trendies of the evening!
Go Toronto Gals!!!
Good news for Ryerson Fashion students – Lancôme
will continue to support Ryerson students through a newly established
Lancôme Colour Designs Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded annually
to 3rd year fashion design students.
