With a mix of professional models and Canadian media and celebrities will rock the runway: City TV’s List West, and Anne Mroczkowski, Sun TV host and Juno nominee Tara Slone, Fashion Television’s Mary Kitchen, recording artist Lily Frost, jazz artist Larra Skye, The Hills After Party’s Jessi Cruikshank, fashion expert Moe Kelso of CBC’s ‘Steven and Chris’, Rogers TV’s Candice Batista, and Cosmo TV’s Jacqui Skeete. MuchMusic VJ Hannah Simone will emcee, and acclaimed artist Tara MacLean will perform live!

This year’s designers are: Project Runway Canada winner Evan Biddell, TFI New Labels winner Eugenia Leavitt, Nada Yousif, Katya Revenko, Jason Meyers, Carrie Hayes, Zoran Dobric, Thien LE and Damzels in this Dress.

The Sustainable Style Show will take place on the same day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature a group of hand-selected, quality, eco-friendly fashion and beauty vendors selling products and holiday gift ideas to the eco savvy consumer. $10

The Green Gala will be held from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. $75 and $85 in advance and $100 at the door.

Art of Fashion 2008: Between the Lines
People will have a chance to view an exclusive clothing collection created by our most promising Canadian fashion designers. Each designer will bring their collection to life through various interactive installations throughout the Parkdale Village. Building from our success in 2007, consisting of over 3,000 public votes and an overall audience of approximately 10,000, we will again host the “You Be the Judge” design competition for both public and industry voting to determine the “Most Promising Designer” and “Best Exhibit” for 2008.

Art of Fashion Trunk Show
The highly anticipated annual Art of Fashion Trunk Show is a key industry event that
showcases original works from apparel and accessory designers. It provides a unique
sales opportunity for designers to present their collection to buyers and sell directly to the public. Building on the momentum from Scotiabank Nuit Blanche, the winners for “Most Promising Designer” and “Best Exhibit” will be announced and awarded the grand prize of a monetary grant, exclusive retail and media opportunities, memberships to arts and design organizations, and much more!

The Eatons, a punk-influenced pop rock band who have just released their first EP Firestarter, will perform live music. Toronto Fashion Incubator New Labels Finalist, Adrienne Butikofer, presents her highly anticipated collection to round off the fashion element.

We are committed to inspiring young entrepreneurs by bringing together entertainers, designers and artists to celebrate the process of creativity; all in an effort to support a worthy charity.

Fashion @ Nuit Blanche

Nuit Blance in Toronto is an entire night of art events and exhibitions around the city - all for free!

For its second round, The Art of Fashion, a non-for-profit organization that helps Canadian fashion designers, is taking part in Scotiabank Nuit Blanche, Art of Fashion: Surreal Journey (7 p.m. start).

This competition consists of local designers who create 5 outfits on the theme Surreal Journey. The ten finalists' designs will be on display, with a dj, an opera singer, and the Zero Gravity Circus! The audience then votes for the best designer. Congrats to Tara White, one of the finalists!

The public will have a chance to vote for the best designer, which will be announce a week later during a Trunk Show at the Toronto Heliconian Club (35 Hazelton Avenue), October 5th from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Misshapes Book Launch and Party


Thursday Sept 6th, Fly Nightclub (8 Gloucester St) with fashion icon Sophie Lamar hosting, DJ set by The Misshapes , Sebastian Grainger (Death From Above 1979), Jackson Pollis, Crystal Castles and featuring a surprise guest!

Greg Krelenstein (26), Leigh Lezark (23), and Geordon Nicol (23) the trio behind the groups‚ eponymous Saturday-night party as well as trendsetters in their own right. They have managed to become an intersection of music, art, and fashion and aside from their weekly night, they have provided music for a range of events hosted by institutions like the Whitney Museum and Museum of Contemporary Art to fashion world powerhouses like Chanel, Versace, and Calvin Klein. They have assembled this collection of portraits, edited by Misshapes member Geordon Nicol, as a document of their unique world.

The portraits include cutting edge musicians, celebrities, artists, and designers, some from different generations, alongside the youth of down town New York. Madonna, Yoko Ono, Michael Stipe, Axl Rose, Kelis, Peaches, Hedi Slimane, Michel Gondry, Nan Goldin, Sienna Miller, Chloe Sevigny, Bloc Party, My Chemical Romance and many others are included. With each subject posed amidst the downtown scene's dense and riotous environment. The contributing photographers also include some of the art, fashion and rock world's biggest stars like Karl Lagerfeld, Ryan McGinley, and Nick Zinner.

FASHION AND DESIGN FESTIVAL

August 23 to 25, 2007 - free!

The first edition of the Fashion and Design Festival, touted as one of the continent's largest, will transform Toronto’s Dundas Square into a flamboyant catwalk. Sponsored by The Bay, the event will feature three days of cutting-edge fashion and music.

I LOVE KYOTO: ETHICAL FASHION SHOW
August 23, 8 p.m.
Reflecting the worldwide trend towards preserving the environment, a show spotlighting ethical labels at the cutting edge of fashion such as Preloved and On & On.

Team Canada will provide the musical backdrop for this one-of-a-kind fashion show. Their performance skillfully combines various musical styles and hip-hop techniques to create a unique ambience enhanced by a multi-media presentation of striking images.

HIGHLIGHT TORONTO
August 23, 10 p.m.
A show that will unfold like a series of snapshots of some of the most stunning collections by local designers such as Jamil Juma and Arthur Mendonça. Punctuated by the music of King Sunshine, the show will feature the works of Toronto’s hottest designers.

FRENCH KISS
August 24, 10 p.m.
French Kiss features the creations of Montreal designers including BodyBag, Morales, Nadya Toto and others.

H&M OPENS ITS FIRST STORE ON QUEEN STREET WEST

Thursday, August 16th at 12:00 noon

H&M opens its first store in Toronto’s trendy Queen Street West district. Occupying over 10,000 square feet on two levels, the store will feature H&M’s most fashion-forward collections for women, men and teenagers – as well as updated basics – allowing H&M customers to create their own personal style.

A special ribbon-cutting ceremony will be conducted to officially open the store.

In celebration, the first 150 customers will receive a 20 per cent discount off their purchases. Throughout the day, each customer will also receive a stylish H&M gift with purchase.

H&M currently has 29 stores in Canada: 19 stores in Ontario, two stores in Alberta, and eight stores in Québec.

Kensington Catwalk Challenge

Kensington Market's Pedestrian Sundays presents the Kensington Catwalk Challenge.

Second-hand stylists meet on Kensington between Dundas and St. Andrew at 2 pm. 12 contestants will be chosen to receive 50 Market bucks; then they have two hours to throw together a 'kensington' look before street-strutting in front of the judging panel at 4 pm.

Local merchants donate prizes for creativity, most fashionable sun block, best use of layers...
