News * New

hi, I'm Rachel (PR freelancer, ex-fashion school student and founder of TSF.com). I started the blog way back in 2005 (before there was barely anything about Toronto fashion online) and spent many really fun years documenting fashion and street fashion in Toronto!

I recently had my second baby boy and my days of fashion parties, designer shows and frivolous shopping are but a happy memory. I still work a little on the blog, do other freelance writing and PR when I can!

So, please don't feel offended if I haven't responded to your E-mail, party invite or store opening. I do pass invites along to other bloggers though and we try to cover what we can!

Thanks for reading!

Can we really get away with this? Mixed Patterns Street Style

Sunday, March 13th, 2011

What I mean is – can the average person pull this off?!

I came across this first photo on The Sartorialist blog with photographer Scott Schuman commenting that this mixed pattern look is one of his favorites of the season. Now of course she looks beautiful, in context at Paris Fashion Week – but really, how many of us can get away with a mishmash outfit? Unless you’re a model or attending a fashion event, I think it takes style and grace to pull it off.

Not sure about this…Fashion editor Julie Sarr-Jamois pictured on All The Pretty Birds is well-known for her mismatching – but fur and bananas?

Of course Tommy Ton for Style.com

There are a lot of Mr. Newton’s really great street style shots at Harpers Bazaar. A few recent from Paris…

This sort of matches, but Toronto’s Sarah Nicole Prickett can pretty much pull off anything!

Next: Color-blocking! Apparently when it comes to wearing color this season – ANYTHING goes!

DIY Couture: Half Moon Manicure

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

photo: The Cherry Blossom Girl

ChickAdvisor.ca asks in their recent DIY Half Moon Manicure blog post – Hot or Not? And I had to share this after seeing The Cherry Blossom Girl’s tres chic, jewelled half moon manicure .

The new trend, following the spring 2011 runway look, is to reverse the french manicure, leaving nails blank and just adding color to the ‘moon’ as opposed to the Dita Von Teese classic of leaving moons white. Two tone would be hot using trendy spring 2011 pastels or grey too.

Apparently celebs are already making this popular (who knew) so I better get on it. Just need to get me some 3-hole reinforcement stickers and try it myself.

Chunky Knits

Friday, December 17th, 2010

I have been so obsessed with knits lately and am finally ditching my hoody collection for comfy cocoon sweaters and cable knit leggings. It could be because shops are full of knits this season, or because of the frigid weather and my desire for warmth. Either way, my obsession continues as I keep buying sweater dresses, over-sized knit cardigans and chunky cowls!

I absolutely love the following from some of the few Canadian knitwear designers we have Heidi Ackerman (first 2 pics) and Line Knitwear:

However, it seems there are many, super talented knitwear designers coming out of the UK and other parts of Europe – and I had to share these awesome pieces:

Laura Theiss

Sandra Buckland

YYZ Living Magazine Launch: An Animal Affair

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

YYZ Living Magazine stormed Nyood this month to launch it’s new magazine. For those who don’t know, YYZ Living Magazine covers the stylish topics of art, fashion and culture in Toronto.

With the cool weather here, animal skin was the look of the night, with fur coats and vests, leather dresses and lots of leopard print. Editor in Chief Annie Lam Shivani Kumar rocked leopard stilettos with her leather panel dress, perhaps channeling the tone of the evening for the other fashionable guests while managing editor Annie Lam donned a  silvery python print dress and black heels with silver spikes.

Musician Anna Cyzon in a grey Danier leather jacket and fur-topped booties

Actress Kerry Laifatt pretty and preggy in a flowing leopard frock

Eryn Shannon in one of the most worn trends of the season: a plush fur vest with friend Julia Che in a knee length fur coat and leopard pumps

Nicholas-Sean warded off the cold with a fur vest

Plaid Capes (fall 2010)

Monday, October 11th, 2010

The weather’s been sooooo beautiful lately but seeing as it is fall, it is bound to get chilly without warning very soon!

I found my plaid cape two years at Goodwill or something and most of the bloggers pictured here were wearing their plaid capes last year,  but since we’ve recently started seeing good ol’ celebs sportin’ capes just lately, it will likely be at your local Forever 21/Urban Outfitters/Anthropologie in no time.

This is sort of what I’ll look like this fall in my blue cape :)

Fidelity New Denim Looks Fall 2010

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

Everybody (back) in denim.

I personally think this whole denim trend is re-emerging a little early. Jean jackets, vests and head to toe denim… Therefore, I give it about 2-3 years to hit its max.

In the meantime, looks from our Canadian friends at Fidelity
