News * New

hi, I'm Rachel (PR freelancer, ex-fashion school student and founder of TSF.com). I started the blog way back in 2005 (before there was barely anything about Toronto fashion online) and spent many really fun years documenting fashion and street fashion in Toronto!

I recently had my second baby boy and my days of fashion parties, designer shows and frivolous shopping are but a happy memory. I still work a little on the blog, do other freelance writing and PR when I can!

So, please don't feel offended if I haven't responded to your E-mail, party invite or store opening. I do pass invites along to other bloggers though and we try to cover what we can!

Thanks for reading!

Dispatches from a Newbie: LGFW Day 3

Fashion Week in Toronto
LG Fashion Week
SS’12: Day 3

Inside, the LG tents were bustling with positive energy all day, despite the glum weather outside. Early shows included Robert Graham, Sid Neigum, Marie Saint Pierre, and Klaxon Howl. However, the majority of the day was quite quiet, which I guess was a result of busy work schedules of fashion week’s elite and the not-so nice weather.

Jenn pictured with Liz Trinnear of MuchMusic – Day 3 fashion week (on a student budget) outfit: Faux leather jacket, black tights, and black booties from H&M.  Black tank top, cream skirt, and pearl-gold chain necklace from Forever 21.

Around 5 p.m, the guest lists expanded as more people filed in for Label, Korhani, Pink Tartan, and Joe Fresh.

The Label studio show was a collection of feminine pieces; very basic yet girly chic pieces for spring! It featured edgy necklaces and other chunky jewelry designed by Toronto’s own, Emily Woundenberg (below). Pink Tartan and Joe Fresh lit up the night with beaming neon’s against sharp white, creating a crisp contrast for next season. Both collections also had neutrals and classic tailoring as two of their main features.

Waiting in the mayhem for the Joe Fresh show to start, I introduced myself and spoke with Liz Trinnear of MuchMusic. She sported her classic bun and looked fabulous. As always, Joe Fresh was a fully packed show (some people were even crowded sitting on the stairs) with supermodel Yasmin Warsame taking the catwalk.

Another highlight of my night was meeting InFashion’s, Glen Baxter (above). I had noticed him from afar the past few days but actually had the chance to speak with him, which was amazing! Other attendees of the nights fashion shows were Toronto fashion reps: Melinda Shankar, Adrian Mainella, Randi Bergman, Tommy Ton, Stacey McKenzie, Fefe Dobson, Keisha Chante, Lisa Tant, Bernadette Mora, and Mosha Lundstrom.

Turban Trend?

Seeing turbans and headwraps on the models at the Attitude Jay Manuel and Laura Siegel shows, it got me thinking about this new “Turban” inspired headband trend. I recently bought myself one from American Apparel, and noticed two girls sporting one. It’s a unique trend, which can go with ultimately any outfit, not to mention how cute they look! Look for this style of headwear appear more often for the season Spring/Summer ’12.

LG Fashion Week Mayhem: #LGFW Spring 2012

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

David Pekaut’s love affair with Toronto left us with Luminato and a sense of ourselves as Citizens of Cool, as opposed to mere “taxpayers”. His eponymous square is a fitting place for the Fashion Design Council of Canada’s (FDCC) 25th runway season  #Canada Cool.

Crowds crush to get inside, but even those lucky enough to have a ticket to the Holt Renfrew show find themselves unable to fight their way into the runway room. A harried, but compassionate gentleman whisks me through the mob and I’m herded to the only seat left in house.  Flare and Fab magazine editors lend a hand as I climb up bleacher seating in five inch Carvalhos, and face the cold realization my emergency vodka shot is not in my purse.

The frenzy subsides as we are teased with Holt’s offerings for spring.  Splash out on Smythe -   Andrea Lenczner and Christie Smythe’s  knife sharp tailoring and ultra-luxurious wools make their jackets essential for those who are serious about style.  Naked and Famous steers us around all the right curves with fitted menswear, and Denis Gagnon’s trippy chintz is accessorized with matching patent clutches.

Opening night is a bit of a celebrity brawl – I mean ball (!), with Jeanne Beker looking gorgeous as usual, and cameras whirring like a plague of locusts on the likes of  Krisha Chante, Susan Boyd, Julie Black and Stacey McKenzie.   Dragon Diva Arlene Dickinson reminds us that Toronto ladies never sacrifice sensuality or femininity to play ball with the Bay Street boys, and wears her power beautifully.

The rest of the week looks promising with stars like David Dixon and Baby Steinberg, and inspiring new talent including TSF darling Adrian Wu.

Toronto’s Rogue Fashion Week & The ShOws

Friday, October 14th, 2011

One of my favorite sites to follow LG Fashion Week in Toronto is Peroni Moda Files by top stylist Amy Lu and photographer Kevin Gonsalves. And now, fortunately for me they’re out and about at The shOws – Toronto’s rogue “off-site” line-up of fashion shows and events produced by the clearly gutsy Paola Fullerton (she is after all, practically going up agains FDCC prez Robin Kay…)

Amazingly talented Canadian fashion designers Calla Haynes, Jean-Pierre Braganza, Todd Lynn and Thomas Tait are all part of this two-day shOws event, hosted by model Coco Rocha and held at the Ritz Carleton. More about PF here >>

Anyhow, back to Peroni Moda Files: Love this pic of Tommy Ton and Anita Clarke (and the pants!) at the Ritz.

Pattern Pants Trend @ NY Fashion Week (SS12)

Friday, September 16th, 2011

This trend showed itself a little this past summer in our favorite shops but believe me, since we’re seeing it on the well-dressed of New York City now and on spring 2012 runways – it will only gain momentum later!
