News * New

hi, I'm Rachel (PR freelancer, ex-fashion school student and founder of TSF.com). I started the blog way back in 2005 (before there was barely anything about Toronto fashion online) and spent many really fun years documenting fashion and street fashion in Toronto!

I recently had my second baby boy and my days of fashion parties, designer shows and frivolous shopping are but a happy memory. I still work a little on the blog, do other freelance writing and PR when I can!

So, please don't feel offended if I haven't responded to your E-mail, party invite or store opening. I do pass invites along to other bloggers though and we try to cover what we can!

Thanks for reading!

Vintage Fashion Art Prints and Posters

Friday, December 3rd, 2010

What do you get for the person who has everything? Everyone has everything so this question gets more tricky each gift-giving season. However, something that hangs on the wall is an idea – it doesn’t take up much space and doesn’t add to people’s clutter.

I found these on allposters.ca – an awesome site with thousands of art prints and posters. Another great idea for prints and posters is museum stores.

Kate Domina’s Folksy Kids

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

Came across these oil paintings by Toronto-based artist Kate Domina via Canvas Gallery (boasts original art by more than 120 Canadian artists). Apparently her paintings of various young’ins is an exploration of innocence and curiosity – I just love the folksy – fashion-y vibe. Kate also does portrait commissions, with prices starting at $250 – contact kate at katedomina@gmail.com for a quote.

Parts & Labour Interior

Monday, September 27th, 2010

Parts & Labour is a Parkdale artsy collab that’s part restaurant, part music venue, part bar. Apparently a magnet for the ‘grown-up’ hipster (and/or the ones with cash), it’s decorated with long communal tables and bar stools re-purposed from truck springs. A myriad of pot lights over the bar are actually recycled fire extinguishers that have been chopped in half and powder coated.

I can’t speak for the food (includes things like fried pig face, sea bass carpaccio, heirloom beets, pickled blueberries); but I love these pics of the interior – Designed by Castor (Brian Richer and Kei Ng).

I first heard of Vancouver interactive design company Tangible Interaction when they designed a flourescent, digital graffiti wall for the Chanel New York store re-opening. For this installation, two 23-foot long LED canvasses were erected for guests to spray paint on with infrared CHANEL cans.

Other amazing projects Tangible has conceived:

1. Zygote Balls that change color when touched or pushed – For the closing ceremonies at the Vancouver Olympics 2010, 20 beautiful zygote balls were ‘released’ in the arena, all changing colors every time someone hit them. Sort of like giant cyber balloons with a futuristic twist.

2. Another graffiti wall – a 3-day Converse installation where people could paint shoes.

Fashion Photography by Mario Miotti

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

I googled ‘canada fashion photographer’ and the first best is no less than Mario Miotti – a Canadian-based photographer that’s shot for numerous magazines including LouLou and Driven; has a portfolio full of beautiful men and women; and has shot campaigns for several designers including Andy the Ahn and Soia & Kyo.

Love the beautiful depth and clarity in the black and white photos…
