News * New

hi, I'm Rachel (PR freelancer, ex-fashion school student and founder of TSF.com). I started the blog way back in 2005 (before there was barely anything about Toronto fashion online) and spent many really fun years documenting fashion and street fashion in Toronto!

I recently had my second baby boy and my days of fashion parties, designer shows and frivolous shopping are but a happy memory. I still work a little on the blog, do other freelance writing and PR when I can!

So, please don't feel offended if I haven't responded to your E-mail, party invite or store opening. I do pass invites along to other bloggers though and we try to cover what we can!

Thanks for reading!

Photographer: Jasmin Dosanj (new to T.O)

Sunday, November 13th, 2011

I received an E-mail (sometime in the summer) from Jasmin Dosanj, a photographer who was born in the UK, travelled to Calgary to attend the Alberta College of Art + Design (ACAD) where she got a BDes in Photography and now lives in Toronto where she is establishing herself as a photographer. Welcome!

(sidenote: the more I see it, the more I’m getting used to the glamourous idea of a turban…)

PAINT MY CANDY by Jessica Gorlicky at BAMBOOZLE

Friday, October 14th, 2011

Toronto’s fashion industry, media, and art curators schmoozed among 250 flying “Butterflettes” at Seven Continents last night for the Bamboozle event featuring the large-scale art of Toronto-based artist Jessica Gorlicky.

Entitled Paint My Candy, this latest collection by Gorlicky is vibrant, colorful and full of whimsy – many painted on floor to ceiling canvasses! Some of her other work is now showing in over 20 locations across Canada, including trendy restaurants, cafés, fashion boutiques, and art galleries (check her site for details).

BAMBOOZLE was organized by Seven Continents, an organization that makes/sells/sources retail presentation items. The event was in “celebration of art and fashion in its many incarnations” and held to announce the grand opening of SEVENup Retail. Also on display were four “Pop Shops” featuring installations by Cindy Rendely OBJEX for jewellery, Cydelic by Chorin for accessories, Provocative for lingerie, and X-Crated for shoes.

You may have seen Toronto-based illustrator and Sheridan grad Melinda Josie’s kitty illustration’s in the current Little Burgundy campaign (shown). She works as a freelancer illustrating children’s books, doing editorial work, creating textile designs, and making fine art for gallery shows and commissions – but I think she’s on to something with these fashionable cats!

Another Toronto resident who also studied at Sheridan (Interpretive Illustration) is illustrator Chloe Cushman – her well-dressed subjects happen to be giraffes and lions – love it!

Fashion Photography by Richard Bernardin

Friday, March 25th, 2011

A lover of music, fashion, architecture and good wine, Canadian photographer Richard Bernardin ‘never hates’ – perhaps this positive outlook is part of what makes his visionary fashion photography so beautifully dramatic.

He’s shot ads for many many  fashion brands (Le Chateau, Nada, Alberoni); has had work in exhibits and galleries; and is regularly published in many fashion magazines including FASHION, FQ, Elle and LUSH.

Check out his site to see so many beautiful photos >> http://www.richardbernardin.com

Be Your Own Publisher: Blurb Books

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Have you seen this?

I love it – a site where everyday, creative people can actually make their own beautiful ‘bookstore quality’ books – and then promote and sell them through the Blurb Bookstore.

There have got to be thousands of books – mostly photography, covering everything from travel to sports to weddings; art, crafts, architecture, etc…

There are soooo many books to look through – and before I spend anymore time flipping through – let me share some I found:

Fashion Calendar: Paule Trudel Bellemare

Friday, January 7th, 2011

Paule Trudel Bellemare is a FIT trained fashion illustrator living in Montreal, with a client list that includes many children book publishers and TopShop designer, Norwegian Wood. She sometimes exhibits her work in art shows and is even represented by an agency.
She recently produced a good-quality, 9×17″ 12-month calendar of new illustrations – and although it retails on her Etsy site for $50, it’s a great way to support local artists.
