The Beadery, Queen St. W.

No matter what city I’m in, accessories are my weakness. And from Eva Longoria’s Emmy outfit to Louis Vuitton’s latest collection, chunky neck pieces are a key to this season’s look.

Queen Street’s “The Beadery” is just the place to get your fix. This lively and bustling boutique sells a huge array of beads and stones that can be strung into unique jewelry.

Photos from the latest runway collections decorate the walls alongside coordinating beads, so that customers can get ideas for beautiful and in style accessories.

Owner Nicole Sibonney (pictured), a small-framed charming woman, glows when she talks about her collection of gems from all around the world. She encourages virgin beaders to give it a try, saying “I don’t believe in working with a pattern. The best thing is to find beads that appeal…that you’re passionate about and take it from there.”

Considering the large selection, appeal isn’t the problem – it’s narrowing down the possibilities!

And I’m not the only one who feels this way. Open only eight months, “The Beadery’s” business is in full force. Partner Claude Abittan has been commissioned to make jewelry for an impressive list of Canadian fashion magazines, including Elle Canada and Toronto Fashion.

Making attractive jewellery is really easy to do and affordable, even if you are not crafty at heart. The Beadery’s staff can help you out with tips, refer you to an experienced teacher, or point you to a book.
Just think, it’ll be worth it when someone fawns over your incredible necklace and you can smile mysteriously, saying “it’s a one-of-a-kind from a Toronto designer”.

No one has to know the designer is you – it’s our little secret.
