Body Blitz Spa ~ by Sonja Andic

Pure Bliss
Body Blitz is an extremely indulgent water experience, exclusive to women only. It is the first water therapy centre in Canada, offering therapeutic pools, body scrubs, mud wraps and massages.

Let’s Get Started

After being greeted by the receptionist, I chose my treatment: BodyBake&Beyond, a 90-minute all-over body scrub. This includes a wild seaweed [hand harvested from BC no less!] glacial mud, rich in vitamins and minerals, that purports to slim & tone as well as boost my immune system. I need all three. For my face mask, I select a wild seaweed serum which helps clarify lackluster skin. That will sort out my skin after so many late TSF nights!

All ingredients are 100% Canadian, only essential oils are used, and better yet, nothing is tested on animals, and there are no animal ingredients in any Body Blitz formulations. Fabulous! Now I am in total anticipation of my treatment. But before that I must head for the pools.

Water water everywhere!

Before any Body Blitz spa treatment, you are given a tour of the spa, a soft robe, slippers and towels. Once garbed, I was led to the pools by an attendant who explained the best way to get the fullest benefits from the waters. Like any spa, you are advised to go from hot to cold then back again.

I start with a wee swim in the warm organic sea salt pool. I then plunge into the cold pool, which releases a sting of unrepeatable expletives, which I am told is par the course. Then from cold I go to the aromatherapy steam room to sweat. After a quick shower, I plunge back into the cold pool (which I find easier than the first plunge). From here I move to yet another new area, the infrared sauna which is hotter than hell! I go right out to shower and plunge back into the cold water pool gratefully. This is followed by a soak in the hot green tea pool with a delicious blended fruit drink. Then you start the circuit all over again by getting back into the warm sea salt pool. This is all just too wonderful, and I haven’t even started my treatment yet!

Treatment Rocks

My attendant finds me floating in the sea salt pool and announces it is time for my treatment. I am lead to a private room and lay upon a table, where for 90 minutes my skin is scrubbed all over [don’t be shy here ladies], then cooked in rich seaweed mud, then washed and moisturized, then massaged. My face is treated, my scalp is massaged and my hair is washed and conditioned with a zesty citrus blend. Upon completion my skin is sparkling! I am glowing and feel super relaxed. It is worth every penny! Speaking of pennies, the spa has a strict no tipping policy, so you never feel awkward or cheap.

When all is done, I am invited to stay for some more pool action, but I decide to get ready for a date I have later. My attendant takes me back to the change room via a beauty room, where you can; reapply your makeup, blow dry your hair & style it seating in a comfy chair with excellent lighting and walls of mirrors so you can see yourself at any angle. The spa provides plenty of supplies [cotton pads, tissue, q-tips] and chemical free products [gel, spray deodorant, mousse, hairspray, lotion….] to use free of charge. Another bonus is that the whole facility is super clean and hygienic. Again I must say, fabulous!

Who Goes There?

Grab a bunch of your girlfriends for a relaxing afternoon by the pools. Forget going down to the pub ladies, this is a whole new gal pal bonding experience that offers mental and physical benefit. You don’t have to have a spa treatment [but I recommend it highly] to use the water pools. Whether you come alone [I did] or with your sister or a group of friends, the environment makes you feel relaxed and at ease.

The entrance fee for the waters is $45 Wednesday through Monday but on Tuesdays it is $35 for the experience. If you are coming for a specific treatment like a massage or a body bake then the cost of enjoying the water pools is included with the treatment price. I would recommend that you check the Body Blitz website for summer specials which are posted monthly. The water and treatments are recommended twice per month. So get suited and get your boots down to the best waters in Toronto!
