Get That Look Toronto: Accessories May 2006

Accessories: Metals
by Kate Findlay

Accessories are like ice cream flavors, all so wonderful, but totally subjective depending on your personality and tastes. Finding the right accessories for your outfit totally depends on your personal style: Are you rocker chic? Then choose an arm full of bangles. Are you trendy? Then choose a long beaded necklace – a la Nicole Richie. Whatever you do choose remember this – the right accessories can take an outfit from boring to interesting, or from shabby to chic! So choose wisely, and most of all have fun!

Beginning at the top of the accessories food chain are those luxury-loving ladies. For some women, accessories are like a status symbol, and let me tell you, when you are shopping at Birks – Canada’s most lavish jeweler, it is pretty easy to make status look good! Try adorning everything from jeans and a t-shirt to your eveningwear with this sterling silver necklace with velvet swirl (#1). Although this look will run you $295.00, it is definitely an investment piece that you will wear forever. Available at Birks locations across the city, or online at www.birks.com.

For those that are a little more budget conscious vintage is a great option. One of the best vintage shops for accessories is the legendary Courage My Love. Filled to the brim with amazing vintage finds and beautiful one of a kind pieces, shopping at Courage My Love will not only help you save your pennies, but it will give you the tools to make your accessories collection distinctive and different from everyone else’s! Courage My Love is located at 14 Kensington Ave.

For our romance loving readers Foxy Originals’ “Fairy Tale” collection is full of pieces made to indulge your inner romantic. Help him find the key to your heart with the “Treasure Necklace” (#2). Available for $40.00 at stores across Toronto and at www.snazzygirl.com. Visit Foxy’s website at www.foxyoriginals.com to view the entire “Fairy Tale” collection.

Even if flashy jewelry and accessories are not your thing, we have the perfect designer for you. Erin Tracy, of Erin Tracy Designs creates modern, organic looking pieces with clean lines and interesting modern shapes. Her pieces are created from solid materials and project a strong aesthetic. If this sounds like your style try out the “Harmony, Purity, Respect, Tranquility” ring from Erin’s “Chanoyu” collection (#3). This ring, which is lined with pinewood, and engraved with its namesake’s Japanese characters is meant to take the mind to a state where these qualities can indeed exist. Erin Tracy Designs are available at various stores across the GTA, as well as online. Visit www.erintracydesigns.com for more information.
