Get That Look Toronto: Nautical

Nautical
by Kate Findlay

Ahoy Mate! This spring designers everywhere are sailing the high seas in search of the latest fashion trends. The ‘nautical’ inspired look will be everywhere once the snow melts in Toronto, so brush up on your sailor style, and anchors away on this hot new trend!

At the base of this look are two key colours: navy and white. The combination of these two colours screams ‘sailor’, and is likely to be one of the hottest colour combos of the spring season.

Start with a pair of dark denim jeans – the ‘Plumarina Skinny’ jean by Canadian denim label Fidelity Jeans are the perfect pick (#3). Going along with the skinny jean trend of the season, these cuffed denims are a great piece to not only help you get this look, but they are also a multi-faceted piece that will fit with pretty much everything else in your wardrobe! Fidelity Jeans are available at Over the Rainbow – 101 Yorkville Ave.

Next, pair your dark denims with your favourite white tank or t-shirt and layer on some silver and gold hardware. Soos Jewelry has a great mixed silver and gold chain necklace for $48 (#2). This piece is great because it combines both silver and gold metals for a unique and trendy look. On top of this, try adding a few of Club Monaco’s ribbon and chain necklaces in navy and white (#1). The combination of the two materials makes for a great statement piece. Retailing for $49 each, these pieces are versatile enough that together or separate, they still look fantastic!

Another up and coming trend for this spring is patent leather, and this just happens to fit along nicely with the nautical look. Jeanne Lottie offers a great patent trimmed handbag, with a matching anchor charm and silver hardware for $70.00 (#4). This bag available in both red with white and navy with white really pulls it all together, even showcasing the traditional nautical stripes!

And last but not least, put on Jeanne Lottie’s nautical platform mary janes, which retail for $120 (#5). These cuter than cute shoes will not only add a couple of inches of height to your frame, but they will frame your look. Available at the Jeanne Lottie boutique – 106 Yorkville Ave.
