Ohhhhbama!

Carolee from Faze magazine & Liza in Obama-wear from Peach Beserk

Members of “Democrats Abroad” gather in Yorkville for a sold out party to celebrate the inauguration of President Obama. Both floors of the Empire club are packed with fans, dancing on the first floor and on the lower level, watching Obama and Michelle waltz through ten balls in one night. Raul confides “I feel privileged to witness this. I'm looking forward to seeing him govern, and also holding him accountable.” Rachel Gordon is thrilled with the First Lady of Style, “I loved her outfit, and the girls looked fabulous!”.

Many compared Michelle-O to Jackie-O, she is graceful and refined, but more willing to take a risk. Her yellow gold dress with matching coat, worn with Jimmy Choo pumps is lovely, but in some light takes on a strange greenish tone that is decidedly less appealing. Made by Cuban-born American designer -Narciso Rodriguez , the choice fuels rumors that Obama is intending on making peace with Cuba. Obama appears in a surprising red tie – political colours in the US are the opposite of Canada, Republicans are red, and Democrats are blue. The tie is surely a symbol of Obama's commitment to work collaboratively with everyone and looks great. Michelle's ballgown is a surprisingly modest white by Isabel Toledo, fading away into most backgrounds, and much of its beautiful texture is lost on the cameras. Her impeccable taste needs the support of an adviser who will ensure she looks as great in camera as in person. Cheers to Michelle for supporting emerging designers, and bringing grace and style back to the not-so-White House. Now the question that remains- will she wear a Canadian designer when the Obamas visit Ottawa?
